Visiting Grace
What to Expect on Sundays
Worship: We often use the word liturgy to describe our worship. Liturgy comes from a Greek word that is loosely translated to mean “the works of the people.” When we gather for worship, we bring all that we are, all the places we have been, all the things we’ve seen, all the works we have done—everything!—and gather it up into an expression of worship that we can share in common. We use historic and ancient rites to guide our worship together, found in The Book of Common Prayer. (The BCP is the red book in each pew, but we usually print everything in one worship bulletin for ease of use.) What to Wear: When you worship with us, be comfortable in whatever you choose to wear. There is no dress code. You'll find that some of the people around you will be dressed in casual clothes while while others will dress up. Ritual Actions: We generally stand to sing and to hear the Gospel. During prayers, some people prefer to stand, others to sit, and other to kneel. Some people make the sign of the cross on themselves, bow, hold their palms upwards in front of them, or engage in other ersonally meaningful actions during the service. The Songs We Sing: Music is important to us. We sing with joy, songs of praise and worship from many cultures, eras, and traditions. Saying Hello: We take an extended time in the middle of the service for "The Peace." This is an important part of our worship, and folks at Grace have put their own spin on it, taking extra time to greet one another. Please join us in the Parish Hall for refreshments after the service so we can welcome you personally and get to know one another. Children: The Nursery is open on Sunday during the 10:00 am service. Staff members are there to welcome children from birth through age 3. The nursery is directly adjacent to the Gathering Area. Children ages 4-5th Grade are invited to Children's Chapel for a 30-minute portion of the worship service. An announcement will be made when it is time for kids and leaders to depart to their classroom. They will return before Holy Communion. Parking: Parking is available in our main lot off of West Bellfort and in our rear lot from Woodwind Dr. COFFEE! Please join us for coffee and refreshments after the service. We gather in the Parish Hall (down the hallway past the restrooms) to meet one another, share delicious refreshments. You are welcome here! We are so glad you are joining with us!
